The Bell 770 — the SA-built grader answer
Built at Bell's Richards Bay facility with the Mercedes-Benz OM 906 engine, the 770 is the credible SA-built alternative to imported motor graders. For contractors who value local build, local support and predictable ownership economics, it deserves a serious look against the CAT 140.
Where the 770 earns its keep
- Local support — Bell branches nationally, parts availability strong.
- Total cost of ownership — parts and labour are meaningfully cheaper than the imported equivalents.
- Cab and controls — modern, comfortable and well laid out.
Buying used
Check the articulation joint for cracks, tandem drive condition, circle wear and hydraulic response on the blade lift, tilt and side-shift. A well-serviced 770D with 6 000 to 9 000 hours in the R 1.3m to R 1.7m band is a strong buy.
